ABOUT
Florence King is a British Artist & Fashion designer based currently in East London.

The ethos of her creative work lies within striving to make the world a more people and animal friendly place. Using
her platform to communicate that being kind and climate conscious is both sexy and necessary, King holds a strong
ethos on reconnecting people with nature; as a forgotten sacred bond within this capitalistic society. Whilst her work is heavily autobiographical, drawing on the marshes she walks daily and the echoes of the Cornish coastline she has spent much time immersed within, King also uses her voice as an artist to reflect on political issues particularly linked to human and animal rights. Erthe is a collection born through such meditations; not only a call to the environments
fundamental to King’s healing and peace, but a reflection of the powerful values she holds. To play with the inversions
of material and texture, to surprise the mind with new, alien and undersea warpings of ancient memory and ancestral
tales. By incorporating the multidimensional, from sound, to taste, to film, King delivers an echoing feast of the divine
for the senses that lingers on the mind.

Constantly evolving and searching for more eco- friendly materials, King enjoys working with cork‘leather’ as well as
saving fabrics and clothes from landfill, developing her own biodegradable plastics and working with various natural
vegan fibres and materials.

King also incorporates found plastic materials and turns them into one of a kind wearable art pieces in order to save
them from entering the eco system. These pieces are to be cherished, repaired, passed on through generations, re-
housed, or displayed decoratively in an interior design setting when not in use.

King graduated in 2016 from Middlesex University London, studying BA (Hons) in Fashion Design. During her studies
she also interned with LVMH winner Thomas Tate for their AW15 collection. Following her graduate show, King was
selected to expand on her collection and showcase five looks in China at Guangzhou Fashion Week.

In 2018, King had her first solo show, and has since been working as a freelance designer and tailor on a number of
projects and commissions including but not limited to; tailoring for the likes of Noami Campell for her V&A exhibition press day, making Brooke Candy's wedding dress and custom looks for Latto, Tems and Megan the Stallion among many other talented artists. The designer has also produced pieces for performance artist Ekin Bernay- one of which was performed in the V&A museum in 2023; showcasing for a second time with V&A in June 2024 King collaborated with performance collective Ceno2 on their costumes for the Playbody takeover at the V&A East Storehouse.

CLIMATE PLEDGE

King's studio has been operating on a zero waste policy for the past 7 years to ensure that ecologically harmful scraps of fabrics are kept out of the environment.

Scraps and remnants are saved for further creative use, accepting the responsibility designers and makers have of protecting our planet when creating the new.
