In a world where our eco systems are in crisis and industrial farming has gotten well out of hand, it's time for us to fight back against the rigged capitalist system that's ready to burn the house down and take us all with it.
So here's our little guide if you're stuck on what to do in this situation or just after some extra tips on how to live a more climate conscious life.
Industrial farming has become one of the most polluting industry's in the world, over taking the entire transport industry. Because of this, we've included a beginners guide to a plant based diet, including our favourite Vegan cooking pages, products and tips on keeping up with it. Just start by cutting down gradually, every little helps and it makes it so much easier in the long run.
We're not here to make people feel bad about themselves, there's no time for that and it's not constructive. Instead we are here to offer help and advice in this dark period, it's time to pick ourselves up and support each other. We are the only physical caretakers of our planet (as far as we know!) so let's help nature to rebuild and stabilise once again. Nobody's perfect, it's just about doing our best where we can.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

Learn to live with nature
not against it
As consumers we have power, buying responsibly has incredible influence on the industry's of fashion, home wear, food, everything. Supply & demand.
Demand for a better future and buy planet friendly!

What's Green Washing?
Some company's will try to do this by advertising something to you as VEGAN so you automatically feel good about buying it as a sales technique.

A prime example is faux PVC leather, they use the word vegan to deter attention away from the fact that you are buying plastic. PVC being one of the most harmful to the environment due to the chemicals that are used to produce it.
Buy these items second hand and not brand new, this will discourage company's from further creating and polluting with this material.

Fix, re-use, donate - don't bin it.

In our studio we love to save and repurpose
synthetic and dead stock fabrics, we never buy new.
Is your home planet friendly?
Every day things we can do:

- Use Zero waste bars for your face, body, shampoo & conditioner. Honestly Eco always seem to have great deals on and have a fab range of products including face creams, body wash and hair oils.

- Clean out all containers, tins and packaging before recycling to make sure they can be recycled properly (dirty items will just go to landfill)

- Instead of buying plastic brushes and sponges to clean dishes purchase natural products made from wood, bamboo and other plant fibres (I've had the same dishwashing brush for nearly 2 years and its still clean, working and going strong - it has saved me so much money!)

- When you go to the beach (collect shells yes!) but also bring an extra bag to collect plastic debris and rubbish

- Refill Shops! Our new favourite thing at the studio. Although some items in these stores can be more up market, basic grocery items such as oats, pasta, grains, oil, oat milk, laundry detergents can actually work out cheaper than going to a normal grocery shop. There are more and more popping up across London and the world, have a quick google to find your closest one - And don't forget to take your jars & containers! We love the Refill Therapy stores in Hackney wick and Stratford.

- lastly for now: Reusable coffee cups! It may seem really obvious, but they're honestly great. Choose a cute one and make it your new go to thing, take her everywhere, you will be helping without even thinking about it.

Cruelty Free ant and 'pest' repellant
I've tried all sorts of non-harmful methods, cinnamon oil & grounds , peppermint oil, paprika, chilli. While the essential oils helped to keep the ants out of my cupboards it didn't stop them from coming into my house and making a nest in the kitchen door frame, it just didn't seem to work on the floor - especially if you have pets you can't just put down undiluted.

I searched the web for ages and came across these cruelty free plug in sonic sound repellers. It worked pretty quickly, all the live ants started leaving and also bringing up the dead ants from the colony to put them outside the entrance. You're supposed to leave the dead ants where they are for a day or two as its a message to other ants that the colony has evacuated.

After that period is over your home will be ant free! It also works as a cruelty free mouse and roach repeller. It doesn't kill them and it keeps them out of your home. If you're having issues just plug them in and turn them on, I only need to use them in the spring/summer for the ants

Plant based = Planet friendly
How to make the cheese free jump
Cheese was the last thing that I struggled with giving up for a while, as I was a complete cheese addict. However once I learned how, it was so much easier.

The best way to do it is to gradually start cutting down - as you would with other dairy and meat products - then have 2 weeks of no cheese at all. Your taste buds will reset themselves in this time and you can trick your brain into getting the cheese fix from a fab selection of vegan options. It's really important to wait 2 weeks in between dairy cheese and trying Vegan/plant based cheese otherwise it'll be much harder to become accustomed.

I can safely say I'm a complete convert now also thanks to the amazing quality of vegan cheese brands available today! Here are some of my favourites for when I feel like a cheesy treat...

The new Cathedral City plant based cheese is crumbly cheddar heaven - trust me it's the closest yet and will definitely satisfy a newly vegan cheese-lover

The Nurishh plant based Camembert is no joke. you can actually bake it in the oven it's crazy. I've had multiple friends confirm that it's just as good as the real thing, and even better - no cows were harmed in the process ;)

This Honestly Tasty Bree
is literally heaven.
Thank me later.
I'm Nut Ok is a fab brand to go to if your looking to make a fancy vegan cheese board. The smokey charcoal block saved me last Christmas and kept me well away from the dairy side. It's completely divine. Taste, texture, everything.

How to live without Eggs
Two words - Scrambled. Tofu. It's possibly my favourite meal, as I'm a huge fan of breakfast for dinner. I will literally eat it for a quick easy meal any time of the day!
The secret ingredient is Kala Numak (black Himalayan salt) It's great if you are/were an egg lover as it literally transforms the tofu into scrambled eggs.
I also like to add Nutritional Yeast (B12), turmeric and black pepper. Just crumble the tofu into a pan with some vegan butter, add the spices then cook for about 3-5 minutes. If you like your scrambled eggs more buffet style, like me, add flour and cook for a further minute then add oat milk and stir until you reach your desired consistency.
If you're a lover of an egg salad sandwich (or were!) @veganbrownting on insta has got you. See link bellow!
This honestly made me so happy, it's so good! It makes a good size batch so you can box it up in the fridge and you've got sandwich filling for a weeks worth of lunches.
